2025 Dallas Institute of Humanities And Culture MLK SYMPOSIUM

"Where Do We Go From Here? Chaos or Community?" The title of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's final book remains timely in 2025, when the MLK Holiday coincides with the presidential inauguration. Join us at St. Paul United Methodist Church, the heart of Dallas historic Freedman's town in today's Dallas Arts District, to consider the meaning of Dr. King's legacy in our time.

Keynote speaker Ruth J. Simmons, Ph.D. is 2023 recipient of the National Humanities Medal awarded at the White House, President's Distinguished Fellow at Rice University and senior adviser to the president of Harvard University. She served previously as president of Prairie View A&M University (2017-2023), Brown University (2001-2012) and Smith College (1995 to 2001). Her 2023 memoir Up Home: One Girl's Journey has been described as "a love letter" to her humble East Texas roots.
