Montgomery to Memphis Film Screening

Join us for a special screening of Montgomery to Memphis.

Montgomery to Memphis is a 1970 documentary film biography of Martin Luther King Jr. and his radical leadership of the nonviolent campaign for civil rights and social and economic justice. Watch Dr. King deliver some of his most iconic speeches and march alongside thousands in the pursuit of equality.

Reverend Peter Johnson

Civil rights activist Rev. Peter Johnson will be introducing this historic film while recounting his work with both Rev. Drs. Martin Luther King, Sr. and Jr. Rev.

Johnson originally came to Dallas in 1969 to promote “Montgomery to Memphis” as a fundraiser for the slain Dr. King, Jr.’s family.

A champion of nonviolence, Rev. Johnson offers unique insight into the living history of the civil rights struggle in our city.

The Rev. Peter Johnson continues his fast on Dallas City Hall steps in March 1971. Johnson was fasting to dramatize his contention that there are people starving in Dallas.(Joe Laird / The Dallas Morning News)
