Presented by Dr. Joshua Parens

“From Moses to Moses, there was no one like Moses.” This oft-repeated saying appears on the tomb of Moses Maimonides (1137/8-1204 CE). No other single Jewish author has had as much influence within Judaism or beyond it. We will explore selections from his more popular to his most challenging works: his Commentary on the Mishna, his Mishneh Torah (= Deuteronomy!), his letters, and his Guide of the Perplexed. We will examine the man, his manner of writing, his views on law and morality, as well as arguments surrounding the three great themes of his Guide: creation, prophecy, and providence.
