Dallas Institute: Summer Intern Position

Students (rising 11th graders through May 2022 college graduates) are invited to apply for a summer internship that will offer behind-the-scenes experience in non-profit cultural and educational work at the Dallas Institute of Humanities & Culture. The summer interns will work closely with our full-time staff of four on a variety of projects and will have the opportunity to work on a selection of the following tasks:

  • Help manage the publication wing of the Institute
  • Assist with grant requests and reports
  • Assist with event planning and hospitality
  • Assist in digitizing an archive of audio, video, and physical material that dates back through 1979
  • Help create marketing materials and social media content
  • Assist with digitizing paper files to an online server
  • Work with professors and teachers during the Sue Rose Summer Teachers’ Institute preparing printed materials and performing other tasks as requested

Interns will report directly to the Chief of Staff, Annie Salinas. The primary event of the Dallas Institute during the summer is the Sue Rose Summer Teachers’ Institute from July 5-22, during which we expect about 75 teachers to be present daily on our campus in Uptown. Interns must be available for the duration of the program to accept the job.

An ideal candidate will:

  • Show an interest in literature and the humanities
  • Show strong organizational skills and an appreciation for order and systems
  • Maintain a professional appearance and a positive attitude
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with a variety of people
  • (For digitization and archiving) Show proficiency in typing and computer skills, and familiarity with the Google suite
  • Have reliable transportation to and from the Dallas Institute (2723 Routh St.)

Dallas Institute interns will be asked to work at a rate of $15/hour for 20-30 hours per week. Start and end date subject to negotiation with candidates, but ideally in the range of June 1 to August 5.
