Dear Members and Friends,
Hospitality is a virtue we take seriously at the Dallas Institute. In a time of plague, however, its practice takes new forms — as we are discovering anew with the recent surge of the delta-variant of COVID 19.
Unfortunately, the status of the pandemic in North Texas has steadily gotten worse over the course of the summer. The delta variant is more contagious and spreads more easily than the original virus. As a result, COVID cases are spiking in our region, hospitalizations are on the rise, and many local hospitals are running short on ICU beds.
As we prepare to welcome you to our upcoming fall classes, we are working to protect the overall health of our community, while maintaining a welcoming learning environment. With these considerations in mind, I would like to share some of the protocols we will observe at our upcoming in-person events:
- Required: Proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR proof of a negative covid test within 24 hours of an event
- Required: Masks (while indoors)
- No eating indoors
As you know, the COVID-19 outlook is constantly changing. We will pay attention to its evolutions and make adjustments accordingly, even as we hope that we can return soon to our customary conviviality.
Regardless of the changes, however, our focus will joyfully remain on what the Dallas Institute does best: teaching and learning. With some effort we can maintain our spirit of joyful hospitality, even as we keep everyone as safe as we can.
Thank you in advance for your patience and support. Both will be essential to making our in-person events a success.
We look forward to seeing you on Routh Street soon for lively, intelligent, and soulful conversation!
Dr. Seemee Ali
