The event described below represents the second public program of our new membership group The Environmental Forum, a product of the Institute's Festival of Ideas in November 2008. The purpose of the Forum is to understand and be informed about the impact of current environmental issues on our lived culture, especially cities. As an ongoing group, the Forum will aim at a holistic awareness through presentations and discussions in which theory and practice, thought and action, coincide.
We invite you to become a member of the Environmental Forum by joining the Institute at any membership level and indicating your desire to receive special notices of and invitations to Forum activities going forward. We also encourage Forum members to become involved as volunteers in the activities and programs of the group. Click here to become a member of the Institute and opt in to the Environmental Forum.
Featuring Anna Clark and Dallas Leaders
"Then I say, the earth belongs to each of these generations during its course, fully and in
its own right."--Thomas Jefferson, 1789
The traditional role of business as environmental villain is changing dramatically, which bodes well for the green movement. Long considered to be at odds with any threat to profitability, business seems now to have assumed a leading-edge position in pursuing sustainability and developing clean technologies. Does this represent a profound cultural shift, or is it an illusion? Can business--led by "captains of industry" and pressured by its stakeholders--truly care for things of the earth? During this Earth Day symposium, EarthPeople President Anna Clark and other Dallas leaders in business and the environmental movement will explore these important questions for our age.
