Friday Night Salon

Moderated by Dr. Larry Allums

Friday Night Salon When was the last time you had a genuine conversation--not argument, small talk, or texting--but the sort of purposeful exchange that Socrates called "dialectic," the common pursuit of something meaningful and true? Given the prevalence of social media and the pace of city life, we rarely get to practice the simple gestures of listening carefully and speaking prudently. The Friday Night Salon aims at serving as a respite from the urban rush that diminishes the civilizing graces of community. We begin with good food and drink, then gather for discussion of relevant topics proposed by the group--a welcome way to end the work week. Submit your topic suggestions to lallums@dallasinstitute.org.

Salon Topics--September 10, 2010
1. Is diversity a strength or a weakness of Democracy?
