Professor Barnaby Fitzgerald
From Dr. Fitzgerald:
“I was predominantly raised in Italy and Ireland although my parents were American writers. My first visit to the United States was in 1964, when I was 11 years old. I am bilingual in Italian and English.
“Drawing and painting have been my main set of worries from the beginning of my conscious life.
“I worked as a landscape and portrait painter in central Italy until I enrolled as a Painting MFA student at Yale in 1981, where I received my MFA in 1983.
“In 1984 I accepted a position as a tenure track assistant professor at SMU, where I have been teaching since. I have been a professor of painting and drawing at SMU since 2000.
“I work in my studios in Dallas, and in Umbria. When I go to Togo, West Africa, I work in a space my spouse’s family keeps for me.”
